Being accepted into Law School is a highlight of any aspiring lawyer’s educational journey. After the accumulation of days of studying and cramming for the LSAT and sleepless nights of worry, it all pays off once a college accepts you into their program.
Of course, much more than an impressive LSAT score is required for you to get into Law school. Obviously, a student must have an undergraduate degree and typically the degree must be in a relevant field to the graduate school. Along with a Bachelor’s Degree, a student’s GPA is taken into consideration when undergoing the admittance process.
Typically, a student must also write essays and prepare a cover letter, along with a resume of experience and accomplishments. A university or college will most definitely have a deadline for admission and it is important to prepare well in advance.
The glee, relief and sense of accomplishment will last until Registration and the day you open the door to the campus book store and see a page of required reading.
Upon locating the first book on your list, you may be shocked at the thickness and weight of the book but all the more shocking is the price sticker on the cover. College books, and specifically Law and other graduate program books are expensive. A student can easily spend over $600 per semester on books. This number can skyrocket when you consider graduate, PhD and Master’s programs. The accumulation of semesters of books during an educational journey can end up totaling close to half or a little more than the total cost of tuition.
Now, certainly, everyone knows that buying used books can save a student some money. Likewise, students can gain a little bit of that money back by selling their gently used books back to the campus bookstore at the end of the semester. However, when it comes to books on legal matters and court decisions, a student may not wish to return them, as they will prove as useful reference points later in their education or professional career.
After all that studying, preparing and testing, earning your degree does not mean you are ready to practice Law in any State. Before you are legally allowed to become an attorney, you must pass your State’s Bar Exam. Yes, each State, or jurisdiction, requires you to pass an exam. For example, passing the exam in California does not permit you to practice in Missouri. The separation of State jurisdiction and individual requirements set forth by the States are a result of State sovereignty under Federal Law .
Furthermore, the state bar association must deem that an individual lives by good moral code and will lead an ethical practice. This may seem very objective or vague but this code is really a list of activities or crimes for which an applicant can not have been involved.
This list of unacceptable behaviors and crimes include conviction of a felony such as sexual assault and white collar crimes such as money laundering. Having a history of such activity can prevent an individual from being accepted into the bar association.
In addition, once an individual is accepted, the bar association may revoke an attorney’s license if he or she has been convicted of any crime deemed inappropriate by the bar.
Clearly, becoming a lawyer is a lot of hard work and dedication from the moment a student applies all the way through his or her career, as they maintain the highest standards and business practices.

So, you’ve finally managed to graduate from your four-year university. You have studied hard, made excellent grades, and, perhaps, even graduated with a few special honors on your belt. Congratulations! Now, it’s time to move on to the next challenge, right? But, now that you’re a graduate, how are you going to spend your time? The first thing that you’re going to see when you open your used law textbook –believe it or not—is an explanation of what you’re going to have to do to qualify for law programs. Though the majority of college students seem to think that you have to take a pre-law path to qualify for law school, that reality of the situation is that it doesn’t really matter what you study in undergrad. Oddly enough, English majors are actually the most common applicants to law school. Thus, if you have not taken any law courses in undergrad, you do not have to panic. So long as you study your used law textbook carefully, you stand as great a chance at succeeding as anyone else does.
Of course, your used law textbook is also going to go into some details regarding how you should study for your law school entrance exam. Typically speaking, it’s going to recommend that you take a few logic courses while you are still in undergrad, and really, that makes a great deal of sense. If you are embarking upon a career path that is going to require that you put together countless presentations—presentations that are meant to convince a jury—then you are going to have to be sure that you can put your finger on a sound argument when you see one. If your logic skills are not where they should be, then you are not going to do very well on your entrance exam—not to mention that you’re not going to be able to convince a jury of anything.
While the surface-level complexity of a used law textbook might be a bit off-putting at first, there’s nothing standing in between you and law school but your own fears and worries. If you set your mind to studying for your law exam, then you are not going to have to worry about failure. Just keep in mind, reader, that law school is absurdly competitive, and you are not the only person who is trying to get into a good program. If you know that you would like to attend a great law program, then you have to be ready and willing to give up your free time for a few months. You need to study as much as you possibly can, and be sure that you are not selling yourself short. You’ll need patience and commitment before you can find success.

Never before have we seen such a despised occupation! Truly, criminal defense lawyers have it rough. All they are doing, reader, is stepping in and granting the right to legal counsel to those who stand accused of crimes. If they were not in place, doing what they do best, then you—yes, you—might very well end up in jail for a crime that you did not commit. Thus, before you further vilify these attorney, you’d better think long and hard about the importance of the role that they serve within our legal system.
The next time that you are at the store , be sure that you stop by the books section to check out some of the used law textbooks that they have on display. Once you have done a little bit of reading, you are going to come to realize that lawyers are not the terrible people who we make them out to be. You will realize, here, that lawyers are playing an important (indeed, invaluable) role in the proper functioning of our legal system. You may, if this is the case, decide to focus your legal experts on corporate law; and this kind of law could take you in several different directions. If you enjoy working with companies, then you could shoot for an onboard position helping a private company handle its legal affairs. Here, you can pick a company that falls within an industry that fascinates you—music, technology, or the like. You can spend your days making sure that they are staying ahead of the pack—that they are not doing anything that is going to hurt them (legally) in the long run.
If you find that you’d rather work with individuals, then you can become an attorney. Indeed, your law textbooks are going to have quite a bit to say about attorneys. As an attorney, you are going to have a rolodex full of clients, and you are going to help them launch their cases in court. When one of your clients feels that he or she has been wronged, you are going to be able to take to the law books and figure out whether or not they are going to be able to make a case in a court of law. Indeed, there are few jobs out there that are going to compensate you as well as a legal job.
